The Symposium: Focusing on Adult Learners will be held in partnership with the Creek County Literacy Program.

Keynote: Alan Dale
This session will look at the adult learner and the challenges our students face when coming back to school. We will discuss the characteristics of the adult learner, different approaches to get the students engaged and the pivotal role the teacher plays in the success of each student.
Alan has served as the Counselor and Coordinator for Murray State College, Adjunct Professor for Murray State College and Oklahoma City Community College, High School Counselor, Assistant High School Principal, Ninth Grade Center Principal, and Director of Community Outreach and Education for Oklahoma City Community College. He brings his vast experience in best practices, education and administration to assist Aztec Software’s clients’ needs implementing a computer-based solution.
English Pronunciation Essentials, presented by Lynn Swanda and Susan Reynolds
Wondering where to start in teaching people to pronounce English? This one-hour class will prioritize and organize pronunciation instruction for you.
Lynn Swanda has been teaching ESL all over the world for 30 years. Locally, she has taught with Whiz Kids and Oklahoma City Community College.
Susan Reynolds has been teaching ESL for 30 years in a variety of settings in Oklahoma as both a volunteer and a professional teacher.

We're excited to share our tips and ideas from our experiences as educators, tutor trainers and adult literacy tutors. The techniques will be relevant for tutoring and teaching ELL and adult basic learners.

Associate degree from NEO A & M in Family Relations and Child Development; Bachelor’s degree from OSU in Family Relations and Child Development/Elementary Education; Elementary Educator (taught first and second grades); Tutor for Basic and ELL adult learners since 2013 (total 5 adult learners); Currently an Adult Literacy Tutor Trainer for the Tulsa City-County Library since 2018
Lindee Johnson
BS in Education (OSU), MA in TESOL (ORU); Taught ESL to adults at Tulsa Public Schools and to college students at an intensive English program in Tulsa, taught at a university in Armenia for two years as a Peace Corps volunteer, and was the ESL specialist for the Ruth G. Hardman Adult Literacy Service as well as an adult literacy instructor for their TANF class and their Tutor Trainer since 2013
